Author - Gareth P. Jones

30/11/2016

Multi-talented award-winning author Gareth P. Jones visited Blue Gate Fields Juniors on Wednesday morning! As part of his nationwide tour, and Years 4, 5 and 6 welcomed him to our school hall.  Gareth stayed to sign books, which were available to buy.
We celebrated the publication of his second Thornethwaite book. Gareth entertained us, and played a game called ‘Certain Death’, with all the children! Aaaaaghhh!

The Tower Hamlets Book Award Finale 2017

25/11/2016

Blue Gate Fields Juniors were one of thirty-five schools who attended the finale of the tenth annual Tower Hamlets Book Award on Friday 25th November 2016. We were one of eight schools which performed a presentation about their favourite book. David Solomons, Jo Nadin, Sally Nicholls and Ross Welford were the shortlisted authors who judged the competition.

Our group were the first on stage, and gave an absolutely marvellous interpretation of ‘Time-travelling with a Hamster’, which later they also performed for the whole school in an assembly. The author of that book, Ross Welford was very impressed!

‘My Brother is a Superhero’ by David Solomons was the winner of this year’s Tower Hamlets Book Award, as voted for by pupils in the borough.

Summer Reading Challenge Update

8/11/2016

Many many CONGRATULATIONS to everybody who completed the Big Friendly Read which was this year's Summer Reading Challenge! Raju from the Watney Market Idea Store came to school to present the medal winners with certificates. Blue Gate Fields was the school with the highest numbers of students who completed the challenge, as we have been for the last 7 years, so this makes it 8 years in a row...well done to you all!

Look out for activities at the Idea Store. There are lots of new books for you to enjoy, and get ready for the Winter Challenge!
