Refugees at schools in Syria also took part in the competition. The anthology of winning work will also be published in paperback format in English and Arabic and distributed to schools and libraries in the UK and Syria.
There was a video message from the children in Syria, and THSLS have created a short video from the children of Tower Hamlets to the children in Syria. The filming took place during the event and Ramisa was one of those interviewed after the ceremony.
The second part of the prize was an exclusive workshop with this year's judge Sufiya Ahmed, author of ‘Secrets of the Henna Girl’. Sufiya spoke movingly at the award ceremony about her experiences of volunteering to help refugee families in Greece. Ramisa was joined by Tahsin at the workshop, which was at the Whitechapel idea Store.
