Cricket Competition

3/7/2018

Year 3 and Year 4 has been playing a Cricket Competition in Victoria Park last week, the 28th of June. They played with different schools and they were enjoying the day and doing sport with more students from their same age. They have written something about the competition to share with us!

"First, we practised our skills on cricket for a warm up. After practising, we found out which schools we were playing against. Our opponents were Virginia Primary School and Mowlem Primary School. We were excited and nervous, but we really enjoyed it. The first game with Virginia we lost, but with Mowlem we won with 291 runs and Mowlem got 219 runs. We felt really happy but we had to leave early..."
By Year 3 and 4.

Race for Life

2/7/2018

It is always really interesting to see our students doing different staff for charities and volunteers with the aim to help people. One of our Year 6 pupils has run with her family in the "Race for Life" to help people with Cancer and try to improve their life. She is telling us her feelings about it and we would like to share with everyone and encourage our community to do any volunteer or charity work.

'Last Saturday I did a 5000m (5 km) run. I ran for cancer, to help cure cancer faster. My mum and brother  joined me in helping to beat cancer. It took us just over 30 minutes to complete the run. I ran for my cousin's Nan, my uncle and Blue Gate Fields Junior School. I was given a medal with "this is beating cancer" and "race for life" carved into it.'

Leyton Orient Trust Project

28/3/2018

Our Year 4 and Year 5 students have been working on a Sport Move and Learn Health Project for local primary schools during the last term with Leyton Orient Trust. The project aimed to support the following objectives:
-          Improving pupils knowledge of a healthy lifestyle
-          Increasing pupils physical activity levels
-          Improving pupils enjoyment of physical activity.

The photos show pupils from Year 5 playing handball during the last day of the project. In all PE lessons there are always important rules to develop such as the understanding of the sport rules, fair play, helping others and the team and respecting each other. The aim was also to encourage players to exercise and improve  lifestyles by being healthy and active through sports.

The programme was divided into two sections:

-          Healthy lifestyles enrichment project: the students spend 6 weeks in the classroom doing workshops sessions with the coach on Healthy Living covering diet, nutrition and hydration. We gathered feedback during the last lesson to summarise all the knowledge development during the project.
-          PE sports sessions: after the workshops in classroom, students had another 6 weeks to play different sports, linked to the national curriculum, as football, dodgeball and handball. Everyone took part and participated in the PE lessons with the most important thing being fair play whilst participating in sports and competition. The children worked individually and cooperated as a team taking challenges to improve themselves.

Everybody was involved and participating. They will carry on with different sports playing and having fun from next week.
