Class 8 are taking part in the CLiPPA Poetry Award. It is the only award for poetry published for children, and is organised by the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE).
There are six titles on this year’s shortlist, and we are looking at John Agard’s new book ‘The Rainmaker Danced’, which is illustrated by Satoshi Kitamura. We were very lucky to be given six copies of the book, donated by the Siobhan Dowd Trust.
We started by talking about what poetry means to us, and how it makes us feel.
Each day, we are reading and responding to one of the poems in our personal poetry journals.
We are really enjoying discussing some of the hidden meanings behind them.
