Weekend Blogs

3/2/2021

We are posting fun things for you to try at home at the weekend. You DO NOT have to do these activities, but you might like to try something different with your parents, brothers or sisters in your spare time.

How to make a plastic bag pom pom

We are all trying to reduce the amount of plastic bags that we use, but still we have some stashed away at home! Why not make something useful with them and create a decoration for a present?

1. Cut open the bag so that it is lying flat in one layer
2. Cut a spiral - you will end up with one long piece of plastic 'string'
3. Wrap the 'string' around your hand
4. Tie it in a bundle
5. Cut the looped ends
6. Fluff out the ends to make a pom pom
7. Give it a trim to make it neat
8. Wrap up a present and decorate it with your pom pom

Origami

Origami is the art of paper-folding. Its name derives from Japanese words ori (“folding”) and kami (“paper”). Traditional origami consists of folding a single sheet of square paper (often with a coloured side) into a sculpture without cutting, gluing, taping, or even marking it.
