To round off our work this term, we created some observational drawings, including a drawing of a piece of seaweed that Liz, our art specialist, had collected from a beach 25 years ago! This week, we started making our healthy snail snacks. After discussing safety issues that we would need to consider, we used utensils to safely prepare our snacks. Finally, we placed our snails into their new home with an array of healthy snacks to choose from. Using our scientific knowledge of working scientifically, we concluded that we would be observing our snails over time to discover which snack they like the most. We will keep you updated!
Year 3 have been busy researching and designing a healthy snack for a snail. Using Chromebooks, we discovered that snails like eating juicy fruits such as apricots, kiwi, melon and strawberries, as well as vegetables including cucumber and lettuce, and some seeds. We also discovered that processed foods with sugars and salt can be extremely dangerous to snails. This supported our science learning about healthy eating as we know we should have least amounts of fats, sugars and salt in our diet. Next, we worked in groups to design a healthy snack for our snails, considering which foods are in season and which would be readily available. Next week, we will make our healthy snail snack! Here are some photos of us researching, as well as our designs.
We have been busy working with our wonderful art specialist, Liz, this time focussing on collage! First, we used different pens and colour to make observational drawings of objects before starting to use materials to construct out collages. Here are some photos of our work so far!
