To round off our science learning about light, we have been making our own shadow puppets. We discovered that strong shadows are created when opaque objects block light from a light source. Here are some of our shadow puppet creations! Our geographers went out into our local area today to do some fieldwork about how land is used. After mapping out our route, we marked up our maps with symbols to show how land is used. Here are some photos of our trip, as well as our findings.
In Year 3, we have been exploring the poetry of Kathy Henderson. Inspired by her poem, 'Out in the City', as well as poems by other inspiration poets, we have crafted our own poems about our city. Here are extracts from some of our poems, as well as drawings of our city.
Artist-in-residence Liz has been teaching us how to draw hands. Here are the start of some of our drawings.
After creating a tally chart to collect data about our class's favourite subjects, we used Purple Mash to enter data into a table and create block, bar and pie charts. We had an interesting discussion about which graphs we found the easiest to read or the most helpful. Some of us preferred the block charts because the blocks made it very easy to see the total number of children who had chosen the subject while some children preferred pie charts as they felt it gave them the quickest, clearest overview to look at.
After concentrating on drawing material, most particularly the folds in material, art specialist Liz has been working with the children to create portraits, focusing on a model wearing a scarf. Here is a sample of some of our early work.
Year 3 have been continuing to practise our fluency skills to improve our pace, fluency, phrasing, smoothness and volume when reading aloud. Here are some photos of our text marking, as well as us performing today's text: Firework Poem.
We are learning about settlements as part of our Geography unit. After using aerial maps to compare a city with a village, this week we used Ordnance Survey maps to research how land is used in our local area. Here are some photos of our findings.
In Year 3, we have been learning about light in science. We know that light is the absence of darkness and so today we investigated how shadows are formed. Using a light source and opaque, translucent and transparent objects, we discovered that shadows are formed when light from a light source is blocked and that opaque objects create the strongest shadows. Here are some photos of us in action.
