While learning about plants in Science, we were inspired by the artwork of Georgia O'Keeffe to become botanical illustrators and painters ourselves! We worked with Julia, our specialist Art teacher, to create collages inspired by coral reefs and sea life. We studied Victorian illustrations of shells, coral and sea creatures and used pen to add them to our coral collages. Today, Year 3 took part in Sports Day! We had so much fun participating in relay races, dodgeball and football. Here we are in action! It's that time of year again at Blue Gate Fields Junior School where we are fortunate enough to celebrate the creative, awe-inspiring artwork that we have produced as a school. Year 3 really enjoyed exploring the art exhibition and installations and want to say thank you very much to all of our incredible specialist art teachers! Yesterday, Year 3 worked with Tony for the last time to decorate our fabulous pneumatic toys! Today, we are going to evaluate our toys. Today, Year 3 continued their DT project making pneumatic toys. We constructed our final toy heads! We used skills including folding, measuring with a ruler, cutting, using a glue gun to secure our tabs and using sellotape to secure our syringes to our toy heads. We then began to experiment with our syringes and tubing to move our toy heads. Tomorrow, we will evaluate what is going well and what changes we need to make before decorating our pneumatic toys. Class 2 have been busy painting postcards inspired by artist Winifred Nicholson. We studied her still-life paintings of flowers and were inspired to create our own. Year 3 have been busy working with DT specialist, Tony, to create pneumatic toys, inspired by our Literacy book, Leon and the Place Between. We began by exploring how pneumatic mechanisms work and using balloons, syringes, tubing and plungers to create pneumatic movement before designing our moving toys. Today was our first session with Tony in which we created test animal heads. We can't wait for our next session tomorrow! We used our mental maths skills to solve a murder mystery during Maths Week. By making quick calculations we soon solved the case!
This term, the children in Year 3 have been working extremely hard at creating collages with Linda! We can't wait to the the final pieces... |
