Year 3 are working with Julia to recreate Matisse's cut outs. First, we created sheets of colour and then we cut organic, plant-shaped objects. Keep an eye out for next week when we'll arrange our shapes on our page!
This afternoon, a photographer from Tate Britain come to school to photograph each of our Year 3 classes as part of a project by artist Steve McQueen in which he has invited all Year 3 classes across London to be a part of an art exhibition. We can't wait to see Steve McQueen's final installation next year and finding our class photos at Tate Britain! Here's Class 2's practise.
Year 3 have been busy sculpting Ancient Greek pots! First, we discussed the changes we could see across the four main periods: Dark Ages Part 1, Dark Ages Part 2, the Archaic Period and the Classical Period. Next, we sketched two designs before creating one design with clay. Next week, we will paint them!
Year 3 visited the British Museum as part of our topic about the Ancient Greeks. After lunch, we visited the Elgin Marbles and saw Athena receiving her gift of a peplos (cloak). Next, we split into groups to sketch a temple and pots. We had lots of fun spotting the gods and goddesses sitting down, different kinds of Ancient Greek columns and pots throughout the Ancient Greek period.
