31/3/2020

Buenos Dias Year 3!  How are you feeling this morning?

Thank you to Shayan and Uthmaan for sending in your work!  It was wonderful to hear from you both.  We would love to hear how everyone's doing, and remember, you can send us any questions that you have or send photos of your work to us at this email address: year3@bgfjs.org. (don't forget to include your name on the email so we know who it's from!)  Keep working hard but remember to take regular breaks in between.

Now, are we ready for some wake up exercise with Joe?

Let’s take a look at today’s timetable:
Picture

9-9.30: Jo Wicks, a fitness coach, is running PE sessions for children every day at 9am on his Youtube channel. So, if you’re unable to do it at 9am, all his videos will be saved on his channel for you to use at another time.  Remember to take a sip of water if you need one.

Lesson 1: Numeracy
Warm-up
Let’s warm-up and count on in multiples of two.  First, download the sheet.  Then, write the numbers in and say them out loud as you go.  Can you count back from 28 to 1?

Now, count in twos to write in the missing numbers on the number line.

Today’s lesson is practising 3-digit numbers.  Download the worksheet and have a go.  Take a brain break if you need one.

1) Here is a section of a hundred chart. Complete the missing numbers.  Can you spot patterns?  What’s the same? What’s different?

2) Using the chart above and the patterns you have spotted, complete the missing numbers.

3) Create these numbers:

Break: Time for another brain break.  Go grab yourself a drink and talk to someone about how you’re doing!  Remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds if you’re getting something to eat or after going to the toilet!
Joke:        What do you call a bear with no ears?
Answer:   A “B”
Picture
If you have any funny jokes to tell us, why not send them to year3@bgfjs.org so we can share them with everyone?

Lesson 2: Literacy

1) Word class (or parts of speech)
Can you remember the function (job) of each word in a sentence?  Don’t worry if you’re not sure, watch the video (skip the part about interjections because we won’t be learning about them in year 3!).
Table showing different word class
Download the worksheet, read the text and look at the words in blue. Can you sort these words into their word class?  The first one has been done for you.

2) In literacy, we read the story Wolves by Emily Gravett.  Supposing you were Rabbit, what questions might you ask Wolf?
Your task, is to:
  • In role as Rabbit, write as many interesting questions you can think of to ask Wolf.  (Remember, to include a capital letter at the start of each sentence and a question mark at the end!)

  • Click on the button to remind yourself what expanded noun phrases are and how to use them. Then, use expanded noun phrases to describe how Rabbit might be feeling in this picture.  For example: Startled Rabbit with two sharp ears feels extremely petrified because there are two ferocious, beady eyes staring right at him.

3) Send us photos of your work to the year 3 email address: year3@bgfjs.org

Lunch: It’s time to relax.  First things first, remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds before you eat!  What will you be devouring for lunch today?  Something mouth-watering and deliciously healthy?

Riddle: I don’t speak but there is no word I cannot make?  What am I? (The answer will be revealed at the end of the day...)

Lesson 3: Computing
1)
Click on Purple Mash, login with your username and password, and continue to create your 3D game.  Remember to include instructions for your game otherwise other children won't know how to play it.
Picture
2) So that everyone can have a go at playing your game, follow these instructions to share it:
  1. Open your saved game
  2. Select Share
  3. Select Share to post it onto the display board
  4. Click ‘Class 3 Display Board’

End of the day:
Great work today!
Today’s story time is read by author and illustrator, Oliver Jeffers.  Watch the video and listen to Oliver Jeffers read ‘The Incredible Book Eating Boy’.  Are you sitting comfortably? Let’s unwind and enjoy.

Picture
If you’re interested in listening to more of Oliver Jeffers’ stories, go to his website: www.oliverjeffers.com/books#/abookaday/
Remember you should be aiming to read for at least 20-30 minutes every day, either on Active Learn (Bug Club) or with a book.

If you have any questions or would like to send your wonderful work for us to see, email us at: year3@bgfjs.org.  We would love to hear from you!

This week’s mission is to write a list of things that we are grateful for that day.  This helps us to have a peaceful sleep.  What have you included on your list?  Send us your list at this email address: year3@bgfjs.org to share with everyone.

See you tomorrow for another day of brain training!

(The answer to lunch time’s riddle is…The alphabet!)

30/3/2020

Good morning year 3!

We hope you are and your lovely family are keeping well.  We (Orna, Syeda, Katie and I) are all doing fine but we miss you lots and can't wait to see you all again!

While we are not in school, try doing a little exercise each day to keep your body fit and healthy.  We also need to keep our brain healthy as well so that's why we have put together a timetable for you to follow each day.  Have a go and see if you can build your brain muscle so that when we're back at school, you'll be ready to learn.

If you do have any questions or would like to hear from us or even send in your beautiful work, please email us at year3@bgfjs.org.  We would love to hear from you all.

Best wishes and keep healthy!

Alice, Orna, Syeda and Katie

Now, are you ready to do some learning?  Here is today’s timetable:

9-9.30:  Jo Wicks, a fitness coach, is running PE sessions for children every day at 9am on his Youtube channel. So, if you’re unable to do it at 9am, all his videos will be saved on his channel for you to use at another time.

Lesson 1: Literacy
Today, we are looking at word families.  Word families are groups of words that have a common pattern, or meaning.  They usually share a common root word, to which different prefixes and suffixes are added.

Picture
1) Watch ‘KS2 Word Families with Tyler & Sasha’, then sort the words below into the correct word families.  Can you add anymore words to the table?

Challenge time!
Create your own word families with these words:  play, walk, write, give.  How many different words can you create?

2) There are six words in this word search with the root word help.  Can you find them all?

Break: Time for a quick break.  Grab yourself a drink of water and go and rest your brain muscle!  Remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds if you’re getting something to eat!

Lesson 2: Numeracy
Today’s lesson is on money.  Take a look at the different coins we use.  Now, have a go at these questions:

Picture
1) Sian has 42p in her pocket.  How many different ways can you make 42p?  How do you know if you have all the different ways of making 42p?

2) Jo thinks there is more than £5 but less than £6.  Is she correct?  Convince me!  Use these sentence starters:
Picture
Picture
  3) Parul has 5 different coins in her purse.  What is the greatest amount of money she could have in her purse?  What is the least?
Picture

Lunch: It’s time to take a long brain break because you’ve definitely stretched your brain muscle this morning.  Eat something healthy to refuel your body and to keep your brain working hard for you! Before you eat, remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds!

Here's a quick riddle:  I have a little house in which I live all alone.  My house has no doors or windows, and if I want to go out, I must break through it.  What am I?  (The answer will be revealed at the end of the day...)

Lesson 3: Art
Today, it’s Art with our very own artist, Liz.  Liz sent some great suggestions of drawings you can do during your time at home.  So grab yourself some paper and a pencil or pen.  Here is Liz’s first idea:

On the floor, maybe draw…
- a pair of shoes…yours, your dad’s…
- some toys, a basket or box
- a shirt or jacket on a peg or over the back of a chair (draw the chair too!)

End of the day:
Well done for working so hard today!

It’s story time with the marvellous David Walliams.  Every day at 11am, David Walliams will be reading one of his stories from his World’s Worst Children stories – we’ll be posting more each day on this blog too.

Now, let your brain and body unwind and just enjoy…
Story time with David Walliams

We shall see you tomorrow for another great brain workout!

Remember, we would love to hear from you. So, if you would like to send your work to us or ask questions, email us at year3@bgfjs.org

(The answer to lunch time's riddle is... a chick in an egg!)

Weekly mission

27/3/2020

Every week we will be setting a  mission for you to complete.
Here is the first one...

Dear children,

Every night, before we go to sleep, we write a list of things that we are grateful for that day. This helps us to have a lovely, peaceful sleep.

Here is an example:
Picture
We invite you to do your list every night.

P.S. Take note of the lovely Jarman handwriting!

Let's get started with home learning!

27/3/2020

Hi Year 3

We hope you are all well, and have been keeping yourselves safe and healthy.

We have been missing you all and are going to begin setting you fun activities and tasks to complete every school day.
We then would like you to email us copies or pictures of your work so that we can celebrate your efforts! You can also email us any questions you have about the tasks and we will be back in touch to help you.

The email address is:   year3@bgfjs.org

We start on Monday 30th March and look forward to hearing from you!
