Thursday 25th June 2020

25/6/2020

Hello Year 3!  How are you feeling on this beautiful summer morning? Are you ready for some wake up exercise with Get Kids Moving?

Let’s take a look at today’s timetable:
Picture
Well done year 3 for all your effort! We love seeing your work so continue to send them in. Here is some work by Ridwan, Surah, Sahra, Rayan and Zakariya.

9-9.30: PE with Get Kids Moving.

Remember to take a rest or a sip of water if you need one.

Lesson 1: Literacy

Today, for Literacy we will be doing some comprehension work. Comprehension is when you read a text and show you understand it by answering questions. Click here to watch the video to refresh your memory.

Activity 1

Click here to complete this short comprehension task.
You need to read the short extract and highlight all the words that tell you how the character is feeling.

Activity 2

Watch the video of The Prince Who Thinks He Is A Rooster.  It is a story from Israel that teaches us a lesson about being an individual and making your own decisions.

You will be answering six questions about this video so read the questions below before watching it.  That way, you'll know what to look out for!

Picture
Answer the following questions in full sentences to show how well you have comprehended (understood) the story.

[Top tip!  You can go back to the video and re-watch parts if you need to.]

1. Why were the king and queen worried about the prince?

2. What three things did the king and queen try to do to change the prince’s behaviour?

3. How many days did it take for the prince to start wearing clothes?

4. Why did the prince start eating people’s food?

5. How did the wise man convince the prince to sit at the table?

6. What was the lesson the wise man taught the prince?
Activity 3

Read the text, Hindu Gods, then answer the comprehension questions that follow.
Click here to download the sheet or write your answers on a separate piece of paper.

Break: Time for another brain break.  Go grab yourself a drink and talk to someone about how you’re doing!  Remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds if you’re getting something to eat or after going to the toilet!

Joke:
Why was the baby strawberry crying?

Answer:   Because her parents were in a jam.

If you have any funny jokes to tell us, why not send them to year3@bgfjs.org so we can share them with everyone?

Lesson 2: Geography

Starter:

Today, we are going to look at Kayapo Tribe designs to create our own work of art. Look at the images below to see what the Kayapo Tribe designs look like.

Lunch: It’s time to relax.  First things first, remember to wash your hands for 20 seconds before you eat!  What will you be devouring for lunch today?  Something mouth-watering and deliciously healthy?

Riddle:    What starts with a P, ends with an E and has thousands of letters?

(The answer will be revealed at the end of the day...)

Lesson 3: Numeracy

Today, we are going to learn how to add using expanded column addition.  Have a look at the example and follow the steps.

243 + 725 = ?

Let’s partition both of these numbers and lay them out in its place value column.

Picture
Now, let’s add each column, starting from the ones.

Add the ones, 3 + 5 = _____

Then the tens, 40 + 20 = _____

Lastly the hundreds, 200 + 700 = _____

Finally recombine (put together) 900, 60, 8 = _____

Picture
This is how it looks without the place value chart.
Picture
Now, using expanded column addition, have a go at these questions below.  Remember to partition the numbers and lay them out in their correct place value column.
1. 143 + 252 =

2. 485 + 214 =

3. 572 + 327 =
4. 632 + 267 =

5. 245 + 322 =

6. 437 + 261 =

End of the day: Story time (The Atrocious Fairytale)

Great work today!

Remember you should be aiming to read for at least 20-30 minutes every day, either on Active Learn (Bug Club) or with a book.

If you have any questions or would like to send your lovely work for us to see, email us at: year3@bgfjs.org

See you tomorrow for another day of learning!

(The answer to lunch time’s riddle is… a post office!)
