Tuesday 14th July 2020

14/7/2020

Buenos días Year 3s!  How are you this morning?  Let’s start the day with some uplifting music to help elevate (raise) mood (how you feel), increase motivation and bring smiles!  Don’t be shy, sing along!
Can you believe this is the last week of Summer term?  We can't thank mummies, daddies and carers enough for putting the time and effort into making sure children are continuing with their learning.  An ENORMOUS thank you to everyone for their hard work.  Remember, if you would like to send work in, email us at: year3@bgfjs.org (remember to write your name!).  Take a look at some work by: Surah, Sahra, Ridwan and Yusrah.
Here is today's timetable:

9-9.30: You know the tune so let’s get moving with Kidz Bop kids!  Remember to take a rest or sip of water if you need one.

Lesson 1: Numeracy

1)  Warm-up: Solve these pyramid puzzles using any strategy you like (click here to download the sheets).  The two bricks add to support the number on top.  For example, in puzzle a, 22 + 23 = 45. [Tip: Remember, addition is the inverse (opposite) of subtraction].  Solutions will be revealed at the end of the day.

2)  Take a look at these number sentences.  Can you work out what each character is worth and solve the puzzle?  How did you know what to do?

Explain in words how you solved the challenge.  Use these sentences starters:
  • Because I know… therefore...
  • First, I… then, I…

Something extra:

Break: It’s break time.  Time for a little stretch.  Remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds before getting something to eat!
Picture
You have been frequently washing your hands but have you ever wondered how soap works?  Watch this video to find out.

Lesson 2: Literacy

1)  Warm-up: Download the sheet.  Read the instructions and have a go at the questions about same letters, different sounds.

Picture
2)  Today, we are revising fronted adverbials.  Watch this video to remind yourself of what these are.
3)  Read the sentences and complete them with a fronted adverbial (download the sheets here).

a.  Choose the most appropriate fronted adverbial of when (time) for this sentence.
Picture
b.  Choose the most appropriate fronted adverbial of where (place) for this sentence.
Picture
c.  Choose the most appropriate fronted adverbial of how (manner) for this sentence.
Picture
4)  Find and underline all of the fronted adverbials.  One has been done for you.
Picture
5)  Neatly, rewrite these sentences so that the adverbial phrase is at the front, separated from the rest of the sentence with a comma.
Picture
Picture
Challenge:  Create 5 sentences of your own with different fronted adverbials of when, where and how.  Remember to include a comma after the fronted adverbial!

Lunch: It’s time for lunch!  Try to eat a balanced meal where there are different types of food to help your body get the right amount of nutrition to work properly.  Before you eat, remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds!

Download the sheet and transform this picture into a stunning piece of artwork!

Lesson 3: Spanish

Buenos tardes!  ¿Qué tal? (How are you doing?)

For our last Spanish lesson of the year, Paola would like to invite you and your families to make a healthy, easy recipe. There is nothing she loves more than having guacamole for a picnic! Invite your parents to listen in on this lesson or to help write down the ingredients!

Picture
(I like guacamole)
1)  First, let’s just listen to this song about making guacamole. Practise the song, maybe you can sing along as you try the recipe!!
Picture
 2)  Listen to the song again but this time, follow along with the song lyrics to help you! Download a copy of the song lyrics here.

End of the day:

What great work today!  Take a deep breath, put up your feet and let's listen to today’s story, Quill Soup, written by Alan Durant and illustrated by Dale Blankenaar.  Click on the video to listen to the story read by Alan Durant himself!
Remember to also aim to read 20-30 minutes each day and get someone to ask questions about what you have read. Go to Active Learn (Bug Club) or read a book.  Remember, reading a magazine or newspaper counts too!

Enjoy the rest of your day and we shall see you bright and early tomorrow for another stupendous day of learning.  Ciao!
