Tuesday 2nd June 2020

2/6/2020

Buenos días Year 3!  ¿Qué tal? (How are you?)  We hope you’re keeping well and staying happy.

Here is today’s timetable:
Picture
Thank you so much everyone for your amazing efforts for challenging your brain muscle.  Thank you parents and carers for endlessly supporting the children with their learning.  We really love receiving and reading your fabulous work.  So, if you would like to send work in, email us at: year3@bgfjs.org (remember to write your name!).  Take a look at some work by  Sahra, Zakariya, Ridwan, Yusuf K and Surah.

9-9.30: PE with Joe Wicks.  Remember to take a rest or a sip of water if you need one.

Lesson 1: Numeracy

1) Warm-up: Download the sheet and find the missing numbers to complete each number sequence.  Remember to find the rule first!

Picture
2) Today, we are learning about angles as turns.
Picture
Download the sheets and use the vocabulary on the left to complete the questions.  How many right angles has each person turned?  How much of a turn have they made?
Picture
3) Complete the table by drawing in the arrow after it has done a turn.  The first one has been done for you.  [Tip: On a piece of paper, draw an arrow and then turn it as instructed].
Remember:
Picture
Challenge:  Write in how many degrees the arrow has turned.

Break: It’s break time.  Time for a little stretch.  Remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds before getting something to eat!
Watch this short animation.  What did you like or dislike about it?  Did anything surprise you?  Watch it again to catch anything you might have missed.

Lesson 2: Literacy

1) Warm-up: Watch the video to recap what pronouns are.

2) Download the sheets and complete the questions on pronouns.
Picture
3) Download the sheets.  This illustration is taken from the story we are reading today.  What do you think this story might be about?  Look at the image and make a prediction.  Try to use the conjunction because to extend your ideas.  Use one of these sentence starters to explain:
Picture
  • I predict this story might be about… because...
  • Looking closely at the illustration, I predict this story might be about… I think this because…
  • In my opinion, I predict the story is about… because

4) Let’s listen to the story ‘Iggy Peck Architect’ written by Andrea Beaty and illustrated by David Roberts.  While you listen, try to listen out for the answers to these questions.  Remember, you can listen to the story as many times as you need to:
a. What is the full name of the main character of the story?

b. When Iggy was two years old, what two things did he use to build his tower?

c. What did Iggy build with peaches and apples?

d. Why didn’t Miss Lila Greer allow Iggy to construct (build) buildings?

e. What changed Miss Lila Greer’s mind in the end about building things?
5) Find and mark all the words hidden inside the word search.  Remember the words can run: horizontally, vertically, diagonally and even backwards!
Picture

Lunch: It’s time for lunch!  Try to eat a balanced meal where there are different types of food to help your body get the right amount of nutrition to work properly.  Before you eat, remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds!
Picture
There are 12 words hidden words in Rob Biddulph’s illustration of Odd Dog.  Download the sheet to see if you can find them all!

Lesson 3: Spanish

Buenas tardes!  Have you been practising your Spanish?

1) Do you remember your days of the week? Listen to this video to review the days of the week.  Try writing the date in Spanish!
2) Say the days of the week in the correct order from Monday to Sunday.
Picture
3) Unscramble the letters to reveal (show) the days of the week!
Picture

End of the day:

Well done everyone for working really hard today.  Let’s take time to unwind and relax.

Today’s story, The Word Collector, is written and illustrated by Peter Hamilton Reynolds.  Click the video to listen to Barack and Michelle Obama read the story.

Remember to also aim to read 20-30 minutes each day and get someone to ask questions about what you have read. Go to Active Learn (Bug Club) or read a book.  Remember, reading a magazine or newspaper counts too!

Enjoy the rest of your day and we shall see you tomorrow for more fun learning.  Adiós!
