Do you know this Friday, 8th May 2020 is VE Day?  VE stands for Victory in Europe Day and it marked the end of fighting in Europe towards the end of World War Two (WW2).  This year celebrates the 75th anniversary of VE Day. Click on the image to learn more about VE Day.

Buenos días Year 3!  How are you feeling this morning?  Ready for a super workout with Joe?

Let’s take a look at today’s timetable:

Lesson 1: Numeracy

1) Warm up: Download the sheet.

2) Today, we are practising to describe the position of objects.

4) A group of children are playing a game called Flickety Winks.  In this game, they flick a counter twice and add the numbers that the counters land on to see who ends up with the largest score.  Read the position of each throw and name the winner.

Lesson 2: Literacy
 

1) Look at the illustration below.  What do you see, think and wonder?  Download the sheet and use the sentence starters to help explain.

Are there questions you would like to ask about this illustration? For instance: where are they?  What are they doing?

2) Pretend you are Mouse, what might you be thinking and why?  Write your thoughts in the thought bubble [remember, you are writing in role as Mouse so will you use first person ‘I’ or third person ‘he’?].  [Top tip: Think about: What is happening? Where am I? What do I know about foxes?  How do I feel?]  Now, pretend you are Fox, what might you be thinking and why?

4) Can you remember how to use inverted commas (speech marks) to turn your thought bubble into direct speech?  Watch the video to remind yourself. Then, have a go at using inverted commas to turn your thought bubble into direct speech.

4) Look at the front cover of this book together with the illustration we have looked at.  Can you predict what this story might be about?  Be a reading detective and justify (explain) why you think that. Use one of these sentence starters:

6) Listen to the story again.  This time, have a go at answering these questions. [Tip: Try and use the word because to develop your ideas].  Remember, there is no right or wrong answer.  It’s about what you think and why you think it!

Lunch: It’s time for lunch!  Try to eat a balanced meal where there are different types of food to help your body get the right amount of nutrition to work properly.  Before you eat, remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds!

Well done everyone for working really hard today!  Take a deep breath and  U N W I N D.
