Session 1: PE with Joe
Session 2: Literacy
When you are writing, inverted commas go before and after direct speech, surrounding what was said.
Punctuation, such as question marks, full stops and exclamation marks go inside the speech marks.
"I think I'll go for a walk later," said Layla.
"How are you feeling today?" asked Yusuf politely.
"Wait just a moment," said Joe. "We need to stretch before we start."
Click the button below to watch the video on inverted commas. After that, play the game and complete the quiz.
Can you add the inverted commas to these sentences?
1. Hello, said the man politely.
2. What are you doing? asked Fred.
3. Stop! shouted the policeman angrily.
4. Wait a minute, said Mark. Don’t I know you from somewhere?
5. I know what we’ll do, sang Lucy. We’ll go to the theatre.
