Good morning Year 3!  Let’s take a look at what we are going to be learning about today!

9-9.30: PE with Joe
Well done year 3s for your hard work!  But, remember to keep smiling and to take regular breaks in between learning.  Thank you so much to everyone who has sent in their amazing work. We have really loved reading your work! Take a look at some of yesterday's learning from: Hassan, Ishaq, Yusuf K, Nehan, Aliyah, Zakariya, Aliyah, Nehan, Ridwan and Sahra.

Lesson 1: Science
1.  Today, we are going to continue learning about light.

This week, we are going to be learning about the sun. The sun is our primary source of light. Our sun gives us light, warmth and energy. The Sun is the source of all life on earth.  Plants use energy from the sunlight to make their own food.
Picture
Sunlight also gives us vitamin D, which is important for healthy bones.

The sun's light is so strong that it can be very harmful to our eyes.  In extreme cases, it can cause blindness. We must also make sure that we protect our skin by wearing sun cream and not spending long hours sitting in hot sunshine.

We can protect our eyes and skin from the sun by:
Picture
Here is a video that shows a close up of the sun. You can see how hot and bright it is.
Watch the video below and find out some more facts about the sun.
2. Design a poster to tell people why the sun is dangerous and how we can protect our eyes and skin from being harmed from the sun. Here are some examples:

Challenge

Add some interesting facts that you have found out about the sun!

Easy Science for Kids

Break: Time for a short brain break.  Go grab yourself a drink.  Remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds if you’re getting something to eat or after going to the toilet!

Joke: What does the sun drink out of?
Answer: Sunglasses!

Remember to send us your funny jokes so that we can share them with everyone.  Send them to year3@bgfjs.org

Lesson 2:  Numeracy

1) Warm up

Let’s Practice our 3 times tables.
Picture
2) Today, we are going to be learning about equal (=) number sentences.

When writing equal number sentences, you need to make sure that both sides of your sentences are equal.

These scales are balanced because there are equal amounts on each side.

We can make number sentences that equal to the same amount.

Watch the video to learn more about equal number sentences.

   a) 12 + 8 = 5 + __

b) 17 + __ = 14 + 6

   c) 10 + 10 + 10 = 6 + 21 + __

d) 8 + 8 + 8 = 4 + __ + __

We can write subtraction equal number sentences.
For example:

Subtraction

8 - 2 = 11 - 5

8 - 2 = 6

11 - 5 = 6

   a) 28 - 3 = 19 + __

b) 40 - __ =  36 - 4

    c) 45 - 6 = 39 - __

d) 20 + 1 - __ = 12 + 6 - 3

3) Challenge

Let’s try to make multiplication and division equal number sentences.
 Multiplication

 1 x 8 = 2 x 4

 1 x 8 = 8

 2 x 4 = 8

 a) 2 x 6 = 3 x __                b) 2 x 10 = __ + __

Division

12 ÷ 3 = 16 ÷ 4

12 ÷ 3 = 4

16 ÷ 4 = 4

 a) 20 ÷ 4 =     10 ÷ __             b) 24 ÷ 8 = __ ÷ __
Red Hot Challenge

Fahim collected 16 stickers and he bought 5 more. Zeenat  only has 12 stickers. How many more does she need to buy to have an equivalent amount?

                                                                                           __ + __ = __ + __

Lunch: Before you eat though, remember to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds!

Riddle: They have not flesh, nor feathers, nor scales, nor bone. Yet they have fingers and thumbs of their own. What are they?

(The answer will be revealed at the end of the day.)

Lesson 3: Computing

1)  Today, we are going to be looking at online safety.

When we are using the internet, we have to be SMART. Let’s remind ourselves of what the SMART rules are:

S stands for safe. We need to keep our personal information safe and don’t share our passwords and personal details with others.

M stands for meet. We need to be careful with who we speak to online. We should not meet up with people we do not know.

A stands for accept. We should not open or accept any emails or messages from anyone we don’t know.

R stands for reliable. When we are finding out information online, we need to be careful because some information can be out of date or not true!

T stands for tell. If something or someone online makes us upset, we need to tell a trusted adult.
