As part of our Modern Europe topic, Class 6 visited the Wallace Collection on Wednesday 5th June. The trip started with a visit to the armoury room where the children were able to choose a suit of armour to draw in their sketch books. Their focus, observational skills and artistic talent really shone during this session and their final sketches were fabulous.
Next, we were led into a very ornamental room and were introduced to Madame Pompadour. She taught us some French phrases and explained the history behind the Wallace Collection. We even saw a painting of her!
Finally, we spent some time drawing portraits of Madame Pompadour herself and sketching some of her possessions.
It was a fantastic and extremely interesting day learning about how French elite used to live.
