Sue visits Narnia!

28/2/2020

Class 9 got quite a surprise when the wardrobe door opened and Sue appeared from Narnia!  She came to announce the winners of the World Book Day leaflet competition.

Cliff NcNish's visit

26/2/2020

Cliff NcNish, author of children's fantasy novels including The Doomspell Trilogy, visited Sophie's literacy group today.  He showed us how to bring our creative writing to life.  We discussed a stereotypical witch and experimented with different features in order to create a terrifying character.

This is what some of the children wrote about their witch:
  • "This witch is a futuristic, technological witch, whose eyelashes are weapons that tangle her opponent to death."
  • "Her eyes snatch people's eyesight, so that she can see."

En La Tienda de Animales

14/2/2020

Year 5 have been using memory strategies to help re-tell a story in Spanish. They have used ‘word association’ to link the Spanish vocabulary that they they learnt, with an English word. They then used images to help them re-tell the story ‘En la Tienda de animales.’
Listen to class 9 re-tell the whole story!

Has Edward changed?

12/2/2020

Charlotte's literacy group have finished reading The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.  Today, we gathered our thoughts about whether Edward has changed since we first met him at the beginning of the story.  We considered both points of view and practised sharing our ideas aloud.  Tomorrow we are going to write a balanced argument.

Discussion groups in RE

7/2/2020

We know that discussion requires looking, listening, responding to contributions and inviting people to speak. We have been discussing different peoples views on the design argument in RE and using cubes to track our discussion.

Hieroglyphics

7/2/2020

We have been learning about the Ancient Egyptian alphabet.  It was interesting to compare them to Anglo-Saxon runes, which we learnt about in Year 4.  We have written our names in hieroglyphics as well as something that we have learnt about Ancient Egypt so far.  Can you work out what our messages say?
