Our Sarcophagi

28/3/2019

In History, we learnt that Ancient Egyptian mummies were placed in wooden coffins called sarcophagi once the bodies had been embalmed and wrapped.  The sarcophagi were then elaborately painted.  We have been exploring the colours and patterns that were used and tried to replicate them using paint on the mummies that we have made.

Junior Police Cadets

22/3/2019

We had a fantastic time this afternoon when PC Steve came to talk to us about the Volunteer Police Cadets.  We learnt that the Junior Cadet units (for children aged 10-12) meet once a week and take part in fun activities such as sports, lessons on policing and competitions.  They also get to help out with policing local and major events.  We think that it sounds like a really fun thing to do that helps the community at the same time.  PC Steve gave us a quick marching lesson and taught us how to salute like police cadets.  We really enjoyed it and wished he could have stayed for longer!

Super Science Day!

15/3/2019

Dancing raisins, balloon rockets, copper cleaning, invisible ink... These were just some of the extraordinary experiments that you would have seen if you were in Year 5 this morning!

Class 9's trip to the British Museum

15/3/2019

We had a lovely day at the British Museum on Wednesday.  It was incredible to see so many sarcophagi and other Ancient Egyptian artefacts.  We spent time looking at them carefully and drawing them.

C8's trip to the British Museum

7/3/2019

Class 8 had a fantastic trip to the British museum today!  We were looking at the ancient Egyptian artefacts and were really excited to find a 5,000 year old sand-dried mummy, wall paintings from Nebamun’s tomb and sculptures of Ramesses II. After we’d had a look around, we did some careful observational drawings.

Ancient Egyptian Mummies!

6/3/2019

We are learning about Ancient Egyptian burial rites at the moment.  In order to help us understand the process of mummification, we made our own using plasticine and modroc.  Next week, we will be painting them in the style of a sarcophagus.

Calder's Circus

6/3/2019

Class 9 have begun an art and DT project with Linda and Tony based on the circus that was created by Alexander Calder.
