29/11/2019

The Royal Society group

20/11/2019

The Year 5 Royal Society Group gave an interesting and entertaining assembly, in which they explained what they had been doing and how hard they had been working.  Have a look at the Library blog to watch their video and find out more

Storytelling as a group

15/11/2019

Julianne showed Class 9 a new way of retelling a story.  One person started to speak and then any other person in the group could jump in at a point of their choosing and carry on the story.  It was quite challenging to begin with but we persevered and became rather confident at it.

Bar graphs in science

8/11/2019

Class 8 have been drawing bar graphs to show how quickly different substances dissolved in hot and cold water.

Remembrance

8/11/2019

We have been exploring why people might choose to wear a poppy at this time of year.

Separating materials

8/11/2019

In Year 5, we have been discussing the environment.  We noticed that lots of rivers around the world are full of rubbish and we wondered how we could clean the water.  In science, we set up an experiment to use different equipment to separate dirt and rubbish from the water.  To begin with, it was quite challenging but then we realised that we needed to clean the bowl and jug that we were using before the next step.  We also realised that we mustn't pour too much liquid onto the filter paper, otherwise it escapes down the side of the funnel.  Eventually, we were successful and had clean water!  We know that we would need to take extra steps to make sure that the water is safe to drink but we are relieved to have removed all the dirt and rubbish.

Countries and Capitals of Europe

4/11/2019

In Year 5, we are trying to improve our locational knowledge.  We have been using atlases to help us find the location of different countries and their capitals in Europe.
Do you know the capital cities of these European countries?
  • France
  • Germany
  • Spain
  • Italy
  • Portugal
If you don't know yet, ask a year 5 child to give you a clue!

Introducing ourselves in Spanish!

1/11/2019

In pairs, Year 5 had a go at interviewing each other. They reviewed how to introduce themselves in Spanish by asking their partner's name, age, and where they live. Then they practised speaking in front of the class.

Hola, ¿Cómo te llamas?
Mi nombre es________. ¿y tu?
Mi nombre es________.
¿Cuantos años tienes?
Yo tengo ___ años. y tu?
 Yo tengo ____ años.
 ¿Donde vives?
Yo vivo en _________. y tu?
Yo vivo en__________.
