Good morning year 5 and happy Friday!
Well done for reaching the end of another week of home learning. We've been so impressed with the efforts of the children who have sent their work to us. Please keep sending to year5@bgfjs.org to keep us up to date with all your learning.

Before we start today's lessons, we have some exciting news for you. Cast your minds back to year 3, when your class photos were used as part of an exhibition in the Tate Britain.
Steve McQueen's year 3 exhibition has just won the 2020 South Bank Sky Art award. Isn't that great? You were part of that! |
Here is your timetable for today:
Lesson 1 - Maths
Today we are learning about the area of compound shapes.
Now answer the questions below, check your answers and then send your work to your teacher.
Try your best with these, they get progressively harder so don't worry if the second page feel quite challenging. |
Mindful minute!
Before we start the second lesson, let's relax and focus our minds. Sit with your feet flat on the floor. Put on hand on your heart and one on your tummy. Now take a d-e-e-p breath in and out. Do this a few more times with your eyes closed. Try to focus on relaxing your shoulders as you take your deep breaths. |
Lesson 2 - Literacy
Today we will be writing our own recipe-style poem about a perfect school. Before you begin the lesson, take a few minutes to think about everything you love about our school that you might like to include in your poem. Now follow through the lesson to re-cap this weeks learning and write your own poem. Take your time with today's poem and remember to think about the impact it will have on the reader. |
After you have written your poem, we would like you to:
- Re-read it aloud to yourself. Does it make sense? Does it read well?
- Check your spellings and punctuation.
- Write it up in your neatest jarman handwriting.
- Send it to us at year5@bgfjs.org so that we can read your fantastic recipes.
When you're not in school, it's really important that you read for atleast 30 minutes per day. Go on ActiveLearn to read some stories and answer questions about them. Remember, your teachers can see how many books you've read and we're particularly impressed with the children taking time to answer the questions carefully as they work though their books.

Lunch time - It's time to refuel your body for this afternoon. Have a healthy lunch and drink some more water.
Here are some riddles for you to think about over lunch time:

For your main activity of this lesson, you will be giving advice on how to react in different online situations. You will need to draw on all your memory links from computing this half term and think about the most sensible way to respond.
If you have finished listening to the first book, then here is the link to the second book ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’.
That's all for today year 5. Well done for your hard work today and every day. We are so proud of you all!
