BREAK TIME -  Well done this morning. All that maths must have made you thirsty. Get yourself a drink of water, take some deep breaths and have a break from your learning.

Lesson 2  - Literacy

Starter-
You do not have a starter today because we would like you to spend a little more time on this piece of writing as it is your last piece on the Mirror. However, if you have extra time at the end of literacy after using Active Learn, please continue to practice the horizontal jarman joins.
In this lesson, we will explore the key themes and messages of the book. After thinking a bit more deeply about the story, we will think about what we can learn from it.

After you have finished, you will be creating your own comparison. There are lots of different ways of doing think and it will be quite personal to you as the author.  Let's think about options for our own stories:
  • My life and someone I know in another countries life
  • My life during lockdown and my life before lockdown
  • My life now and my life when I was little
  • My life living in London and my life where I lived before

You can lay your work out however you like, but you may wish to use a similar template to Mirror, by splitting your page in half like this example here of my route to school vs my friend in Melbourne's route to school each day.

For yours, we would like some writing underneath each image, thinking carefully about your language choices.

Now spend 30 minutes reading on Active Learn. The more you read, the more points you can earn! Some of you have loads of points already... keep it up!

LUNCH TIME- It's time for you to have a healthy lunch and break from your computer. Here's some happy news to enjoy before you go!

Lesson 3 - Art
In today’s art lesson, we are going to create artwork using our bodies! This might sound strange, but lots of artists have created powerful art using simply their imagination and their body.
Since we will be using our bodies in today’s learning, let’s begin by warming them up. We would like you to make the following letters using just your body. You can use the image to help you or do something completely different but remember, you can only use your body to create it!
The letter ‘a’                                                                                                  The letter 'c'

I wonder if you can make any more letters of the alphabet?
For today’s lesson, you will need:
  • Your body
  • A camera or a phone with a camera
  • Any sized black or white paper
  • Flour
  • A spice like turmeric or cinnamon
  • Cellotape or masking tape
  • Vaseline or cocoa butter
I bet you're intrigued now... I am!
Once you have got your materials, click on the link below and follow the instructions:
Use your bodies to make art!
We hope that you enjoyed using your body to create artwork. If you would like to continue exploring imaginative ways you can use your body to create art, take a look at these artists:

Perhaps you could create a handimal of your own?

Lesson 4 - Story telling with Julianne

Last week, many of you took part in Julianne's first 'phoenix project session' where you shared ideas to take part in a collaborative story. If you didn't manage to get involved last week, don't worry you can skip straight to part two.
Click below for you letter from Julianne and the next part of the story.

Once Upon a Phoenix Part 2
Email your task to year5@bgfjs.org and we will forward them to Julianne.

End of the day - Story time
That's all for today and this week year 5.
Once again, the year 5 teachers would like to say a huge well done to you and a big thank you to your families for supporting you with your home learning. We can't wait until we're in the classroom together again!

Have a restful weekend and try to get some fresh air. Remember, a walk outside in a quiet, open space is still allowed with someone from your household.
