Hello Year 5!

WOW! We have been so impressed with all of the home learning that has been sent to us in the last 2 weeks. Well done to everyone who has had a go at the activities. Let's celebrate a fantastic week of learning by looking at some wonderful pieces of work
:

Here is today's timetable:

9am- Let's get active with Joe! Hopefully by now you are noticing what a difference it makes to start the day with exercise.

Lesson 1: Numeracy
Today, we would like you to complete this week's Friday Maths Challenge from White Rose's daily lessons Summer Term Week 1. White Rose and BBC Bitesize have partnered together to create this weekly challenge and the answers will be released on Monday. Click on the link below to find the activity and remember that all good learners go into the pit!

When you click on the link, it will take you to a BBC Bitesize webpage, where you can complete the 6 challenges.

Break:
Wherever you ended up in that pit, give yourself a 1, 2, 3, well done me, wash your hands for 20 seconds and have a drink of water.

Lesson 2: Literacy

MEMORY LINKS:
Yesterday, you created 3 sentence strips, which included -ed and -ing clauses. You will need those sentences today, as we are going to be using them to write a description of the city.
Here is a section of S.F. Said’s description of the city:

Read this extract several times and think about how the author has added detail and created imagery.

Activity: Once you have done this, we would like you to build upon your three sentence strips from yesterday to write your own description of the city. Think about what the city looks, smells and sounds like and use features, which you have already learnt, to add more detail. For example:

  • fronted adverbials
  • subordinate conjunctions
  • -ed and -ing clauses
  • expanded noun phrases
  • 'with' clauses

Lunch:
Wash your hands for 20 seconds before tucking into a healthy lunch. During your free time, why don't you create an ending to this poem?
I look in my fridge
To see what is there
A pizza, a lemon
An apple, a pear

Lesson 3: History

MEMORY LINK: Last half term, we learnt that the Ancient Egyptians mummified the dead to preserve their bodies for the afterlife. We had great fun modelling, wrapping and painting our mummies!
