Good morning Year 5!

As you all know, this week we are on our Easter holidays, but I wonder if you know why? Every year, Christians around the world celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This celebration is called Easter. Christians believe that Jesus came back to life to show that God is more powerful than anything else, even death, and to show how much God loves people. Your Weekly Mission this week is to write down who and what you love in the world. We can't wait to see them!

Here is your timetable today:

9.00am - 9.30am - PE with Joe Wicks
It's time for ... that's right, PE! Getting active first thing in the morning is a great way to start the day.

Activity 1 - Game Time
Let's play a game! You will need an adult or sibling to play this game with you. Together, read the instructions carefully and take it in turns to mark off your answer on the number line. During the game, you will need to make memory links to the learning you have done on multiplication and division.

Before you begin, draw a number line from 0 - 20.

Now that you have played the game several times, have a think about these questions:
  • What top tips would you give someone, when playing this game?
  • Does it matter who goes first?
  • How are you deciding which number to go for next?
  • Can you find a winning strategy? Does it work every time?

Break Time - All that winning deserves a break! First, wash your hands for 20 seconds. Then, get a glass of water and repeat one of the actions Joe Wicks taught you this morning.

Before you get back to work, let's settle our minds again by focussing on our breathing. Breathe in - hold - breathe out - hold. Repeat this cycle 4 times.

Activity 2 - See. Think. Wonder.

First, have a careful look at this painting. Consider the shapes, colours and mood.

What do you see?
What do you think is going on?
What does it make you wonder?

Use these sentence starters and words to help you:

I can see …
I think …
I wonder if …
It reminds me of …
It makes me feel ...

Light:    dark/light/soft/harsh/shadow/tone/contrast
Colour:  blend/bright/clash/pastel/deep/vibrant
Mood:   atmospheric/depressing/exciting/imposing
Composition:  background/blurred/focus/space/symmetrical

Next,  organise your thoughts by completing this table:

Finally, let's find out about the artist and his intensions:

This is an abstract composition by Robert Delaunay, called Homage to Blériot
, which has swirling spirals and rotating discs of colour. When you look closely, you can see the Eiffel Tower on the right and the propeller of an airplane on the left. This painting was a celebration of the first flight across the English Channel, undertaken by Louis Blériot in 1909.

Lunch Time: Time to get some fuel for your brain and body to keep you healthy! Did you know that bird's saliva is used to create an expensive and delicious soup, which is a delicacy in China?

Activity 3 - Dance

You're going to need your dancing shoes for this afternoon! Use this link to learn a dance routine from The Lion King, with Oti Mabuse, who is a famous dancer from BBC's Strictly Come Dancing. Sophie, Alice and Charlotte have learnt the dance too!

End of the day:

Now that you have completed today's tasks, spend some time unwinding by filling your Treasure Chest. Draw a heart in the middle of a page and fill your heart with all the people and things you love in the world.

Have a restful evening and make sure you are feeding your imagination, by reading on Active Learn or from books you have at home.
