Buenos días, Year 5!
How are you today? Please take two minutes to close your eyes, take a DEEEEEP breath, and think about what your traffic light colour is today.
Remember that you can get help from your teachers for any of your home learning activities by emailing year5@bgfjs.org. |
It is important that you watch the entire video message below from Charlotte. She provides information on how you need to be completing your home learning as well as details for your Google Meet Assembly.
Before you get started, watch the video message below from Dan:

Lesson 1- Maths
Today, we are deepening our understanding of equivalent fractions. For today's lesson you are going to watch two videos.
First, you will watch the White Rose video, listening carefully and following any instructions. Then, you will watch a video of Alice explaining how to find equivalent fractions. |
Equivalent fractions can be a little confusing. Sometimes it helps to hear someone else explain it. Alice wishes she could be in the classroom to teach you but this will have to do for now...
Well done! Now, spend 15 minutes on Mathletics, then 15 minutes on Times Tables Rock Stars.
Starter: Let’s start by recapping last lesson’s learning:
Last lesson, we learnt that dissolving a soluble substance in water is a reversible change. Today, we are going to set up an investigation to prove it!
First, watch the top video in this link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zc3nm39 |
Next, you are going to carry out an experiment like the one in the video and then observe it over time.
Your teachers would love to see what you have done so take a photo of your container in its warm place and email it to year5@bgfjs.org.
Remember to check on your experiment every few days to observe what is happening. In next week’s science lesson, we will conclude the experiment.

Lesson 4- Destination World
In Spanish class, we’ve spoken several times about the many different places in the world that speak Spanish. Without looking it up, have a go at writing down as many countries as you can remember!
|
Watch the video below and as you watch, be thinking of what about this continent makes you curious. What do you already know about South America? What information in this video is new? What about this place seems interesting?
|
To finish this lesson, click the button below and investigate one country. Remember, when investigating something, it's important to be curious!
Once you’ve finished your investigation, answer these questions on a piece of paper:
Once you’ve finished your investigation, answer these questions on a piece of paper:
- What country did you choose?
- What is something interesting you learned?
- What is a question you have about this place?
- Do you want to travel to this country? Why or why not?
Story Time
Well done! We know there was a lot of content today, so enjoy this short story by Dina Gregory to end your day. Here is a summary of the story: "Charlie and her friends are avid video gamers. But when they spot a huge chocolate bar growing from the top of a tree - then another, and another - it is the beginning of a real-life, outdoor quest!" |
Buenas tardes, Year 5! We look forward to seeing all of your wonderful faces tomorrow and Friday in the class assemblies. Be sure to let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Best wishes,
Alice, Charlotte, Sophie, Lauren and Nasima
