We found out that the mural was painted to commemorate how, in 1936, local people barricaded Cable Street where Fascist leader Mosley (head of a British style Nazi party) and his followers, the Blackshirts, had planned a march to intimidate and threaten local people. Our area was chosen because many Jewish people and other groups opposed to fascism lived on and near Cable Street.
We went to visit the Battle of Cable Street mural and identified a part or section of the artwork that caught our eye. We used a viewfinder to help us focus on the specific part of the mural we had chosen and then had a go at drawing it ourselves.
