Year 6 was invited to Shadwell Fire Station for its opening ceremony. We were really excited as we had never been inside a Fire Station. As this was our first time in a Fire Station we were greeted by an Education Officer for LFB. She sorted us into two groups and spoke to us about hazards and precautions about fires. Mr Noisy the fire mascot taught us the importance of having a fire alarm in our homes.
The most exciting part of the visit was meeting HRH Prince Charles. HRH Prince Charles gave a speech on how we can be safe at home and gave rewards to our brave Fire Fighters. We were told that only recently the Fire Service had donated a Fire Engine to the island of Malta as one of its surrounding islands Gozo only had one Fire Engine.
The welcoming ceremony included a role play performed by the Fire Fighters, teaching us how fires are put out on a daily basis.
One interest fact that we learnt was that all Fire Stations have a guard dog which help Fire Fighters to gather information on how the fire was caused.
