In Year 6 some children have been making Victorian tea sets in Pottery. We made cups and saucers, sugar bowls, plates and tea pots that really work! We used moulds to press the clay into shape, and then used glaze and transfers to decorate them after they had been fired in the kiln. Victorian people decorated their tea sets with chintz designs. These were floral and decorative patterns that were inspired from countries in Asia like India and China that the British Empire had traded with or colonised. Can you see the chintz designs that we used? We thought it would be fun to invite our parents and friends to school for a tea party to show them our work, and enjoy a Victorian feast all together. We loved eating Cream Teas and Lydia’s homemade Victoria Sponge. Comments are closed.
