11/5/2020

Good morning year 6 . Hope you had a relaxing bank holiday weekend. Did you do anything special to commemorate VE Day?
Mark's daughter made a VE Day VEgan Victoria sponge with vegan butter cream and strawberry jam!
Here is the recipe if you'd like to have a go baking this cake with your family.

Below is an outline of a country (the blue shape), can you name the country?
Please send your answers and all work to us at year6@bgfjs.org
We'll tell you the answer tomorrow.

9-9.30

There's only one way to go, it's PE with Joe. Oh, and Rosie!
What could possibly go wrong?

1st lesson: Numeracy

Today we are going to start with White Rose:  Lesson 4 - Mixed addition and subtraction to practise adding and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions. Remember your strategies, e.g. making denominators common.
Click here for the White Rose lesson

Next, let's have a look at the National Academy lesson on fraction problem solving.

Break

You'll need one after all that fraction work in maths!

2nd lesson: literacy

Today's focus is on how to use commas, brackets and dashes to make your writing clear, using the BBC Bitesize resources. Watch the two videos and complete the three activities.

Use the link below to access all the video and activities to help you with your understanding of commas, brackets and dashes.
BBC Bitesize- Commas, brackets and dashes
Can you apply all that learning on commas, brackets and dashes to the SATs style question below?

A great literacy effort, Year 6!

Lunch

You must have an apple somewhere around the house!

3rd lesson: Art

Can you remember the name of the famous artist we learnt about a few weeks ago? That's right, Vincent Van Gogh. Can you recall some of his most well-known works?

Today we will be learning about the work of another artist called
 Kazimir Malevich.

Malevich's colourful abstract art still inspires and puzzles people today.

- What do you think?
- What do you feel when you look at Black Square?

Why not make your own Malevich-inspired artwork using the Tate Kids painting games?

End of the day

We hope you are enjoying listening to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as much as we are! Here is the next chapter.

Chapter 10
That's all for today. Enjoy your evening with your family.
