Monday 6th April 2020

6/4/2020

Good morning Year 6!

We hope that you had a lovely weekend.

Don't forget to email us photos of your work or any questions that you have to year6@bgfjs.org .  Remember to include your name in the email so that we know whose work it is.

Here is your Monday timetable:

9-9.30

After your restful weekend, it's time to get active in the mornings again!

1st lesson: Numeracy

1) Follow the link to recap your understanding of identifying polygons:

2)  Complete Lesson One of Week Two of White Rose's daily Maths lessons, which explores calculating scale factors.
Watch the video, then download the activities and complete them. You can then check your work against the answers.

If you are finding this tricky, re-watch the videos from Week One to help you.

Break

Time for your brain break and a large glass of water.

2nd lesson: Literacy

Today we are going to look at Annabelle Sami's book 'Agent Zaiba Investigates'.
Follow the link below to go to authorfy.com and ask your parents or carer to sign up to the website for free.

1) Click the link below to read the first chapters of the book:

2) Watch the videos. You can watch all of them, but make sure you definitely watch:
-An introduction to 'Agent Zaiba Investigates'.
-A reading from 'Agent Zaiba Investigates'.
-How do you write a successful mystery story?
-How do you set the scene in the opening chapter?

3) Watch Annabelle's Writing challenge. In the video, she gives you the challenge of writing about your favourite right.
She invites you to write your own scene in the Royal Star Hotel. You can imagine that you are checking in and noticing other guests in the hotel. You can describe what they look like, what the hotel looks like, and your own feelings.
Or if you prefer, you can write your own version of the opening of Agent Zaiba investigates, based on a wedding you have been to.

Follow the instructions and the explanations in the videos to help you with your writing.

Lunch

Time to get some fuel for your body and your brain! Have a rest, and come back for Art after your break.

3rd lesson: Art

The Tate museum posted some lovely inspiration for creating some artwork:

Notice how many of the artists include the the window or door frame in their drawing, painting or photograph.
Spend time looking carefully before you begin and keep looking closely as you draw. Think about the shapes you see, whether you want to use thick or thin lines, paying attention to light and dark.

If you get stuck, leave your drawing somewhere safe, then go back to it later or the next day as artists do.

Enjoy this calm drawing time and don't forget to send us a photo if you want to!  year6@bgfjs.org

End of the day: listen to Neil Gaiman's Coraline

Follow the link to listen to Chapter 1 of Coraline by Neil Gaiman. The first chapter is read by Neil Gaiman, then each of the other chapters are read by different authors. We will be posting a different chapter every day until we finish the book.
