Tuesday 31st March

29/3/2020

Good morning Year 6!

We hope you enjoyed your first day of the home learning blogs yesterday.
We would love to hear how everyone's doing, and remember, you can send us any questions that you have or send photos of your work to us at the Year 6 email address: year6@bgfjs.org .
We would love to see the work you are producing at home. Don't forget to write your name on your work so we know who has sent it to us.
Take care,
Salama, Hanna, Mark, Paola, Jo, Kaleem and Sian
Welcome to Day Two of home learning. Here's your timetable for Tuesday:

9-9.30

It's time for PE with Joe. It's really important to make sure that you are getting some exercise every day so that you can remain active and healthy.

Break

It's break time now- remember to drink a big glass of water to keep yourself hydrated. This will help you to concentrate!

2nd lesson: Literacy

In Literacy today, we are going to look at poetry with Kwame Alexander. Kwame writes many different types of poetry but your Year 6 teachers are very impressed by the way he has written whole stories in verse. His stories centre around things he loves- things like sports such as basketball and football, and music.
1) Watch the video below to hear an example of Kwame's poetry.
2) Click the link below and watch the videos in this order:

-Kwame defines poetry
-Kwame introduces spine poems
-Kwame introduces borrowed poems.
3) Write your own spine or borrowed poem!
There is another type of spine poem that you could create:

The other spine poem is a new type of poetry where you write the title of a book or song in a vertical line. That gives the “spine” of the poem you’re about to write. Then, you write your poem (it can be about anything). The beginning of each line must start with the word in the title that’s listed there. For example:

4) Once you have written it, practise performing it, thinking about the expression and volume of your voice. You could even perform to people in your house!

Lunch

Time to get some fuel for your body and brain to keep you healthy!  Remember that fruit and vegetables will help to give you a strong immune system.  Don't forget to wash your hands for 20 seconds before you eat.

3rd lesson: Geography

1) Log on to Espresso.
Username: student20436
Password: password

2) Recap your knowledge of how mountains are formed by watching the video and reading the factfile.
3) Now complete the mountain formation quiz!

4) Now read the mountain climates fact file.

5) Design your own fact file that explains :

How mountain climbers prepare for the weather conditions on high altitudes.
What kind of adaptations would be useful in a mountain habitat.

End of the day

Enjoy Onjali Q Rauf reading from her book 'The Boy at the Back of the Classroom'.
Now make sure that you either complete at least 20 minutes of independent reading, or read a book on ActiveLearn.

Remember to send us your work and questions by email to  year6@bgfjs.org
That's it for today Year 6, we look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
